Everything You Need to Know About Fireworks For Your New Jersey Wedding
Your wedding day is such a fun celebration - so why not add some fireworks! From twinkling sparklers, to full-on show-stopping firework displays, there are so many options for couples to chose from. Of course, having fireworks means you need to bring in a professional. No DIY fireworks, please! Today, we have fireworks expert, Patrick Cyrana, owner of Advanced Pyrotechnics, here to answer all of your FAQ’s on fireworks. Advanced Pyrotechnics is the premier firework company in New Jersey, and are the best of the best. Their services are all customizable to make your wedding show unique.
Advanced Pyrotechnics was established in December 2012. In addition to the display business, Patrick is the co-owner of a retail fireworks store in Springfield, NJ called Backyard Heroes Fireworks. The store sells ground-based fireworks (such as fountains), sparklers, smokes, novelties, and assortments - all of the products are legal in NJ. Let’s get started!
What types of venues allow fireworks?
“We work with venues that have the space to do fireworks safely. These types of venues are typically farms, country clubs, beaches, or other venues with wide open spaces. When doing fireworks we need to be sure that there is a large enough fall out area, the audience is far enough away from the fireworks, and there are no obstructions such as inhabited buildings in the fall out area.”
What venues do you work with?
“We have worked for many years with Laurita Winery in New Egypt, Bear Brook Valley in Fredon, and Bryce Resort in Basye, Virginia. At Laurita Winery, we have created displays for their food truck festivals, special events / holidays, and private weddings. At Bear Brook Valley, we specifically focus on weddings. At Bryce Resort, we do firework displays on the mountain for festivals and holidays. We are open to working with other venues as well as long as firework displays are allowed and can be done on the premises safely.”
What types of firework displays do you offer for weddings?
“We offer traditional firework displays, like the ones that you would see on the Fourth of July, as well as pyro-musicals. Our traditional shows for a wedding typically run between 3 and 10 minutes. A pyro-musical is when fireworks are choreographed to a song. Couples usually choose their wedding song or another song that is special to them. Pyro-musicals tend to be more popular for weddings. Seeing fireworks choreographed to music is sure to be something that most of your guests have not seen before.”
How do you go about getting a firework display for your wedding?
“If you are considering a firework display for your wedding, you should consult with the wedding coordinator of the venue to see if fireworks have been done there in the past. If fireworks have not been done there, ask if it’s something that they would allow. Then, reach out to a firework display business to continue the discussion. If it is determined that there is a large enough area to do fireworks safely, the firework display business will work with the venue, the town in which the venue is located, and the local fire department.”
What if you can’t have a firework display on your big day?
If you are unable to do fireworks for your wedding for whatever reason, there are still ways that you could add a special touch to your day.
One way is a fireworks set piece, also known as Fire Writing. Fire Writing gives you the ability to have a word, logo, or design drawn out and IGNITED! This unique display comes in any color and is all custom made to your specifications. For example, you could do your names, initials, the & sign or a heart, or your monogram. This is a great addition to any event and it is sure to impress your guests! We have done set pieces for weddings, proposals, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events like grand openings and ceremonies.
A second way is adding sparklers. Sparklers could be used for a grand entrance or a grand exit. They can also just be used as a great photo opportunity for you and your guests. At the fireworks store we sell the long, steel-wire core sparklers specifically for weddings, as well as heart-shaped ones. These types of sparklers are smokeless and yield no ash. Sparklers can also be used to write words, like the word ‘love’. You will want to work with your photographer on this type of shot. Remember to use sparklers outdoors only and have sand or a bucket of water nearby to dispose of after use.
A third way is to add color smoke devices. Smokes create a smoky background for a grand entrance, a group shot with your bridal party, or a romantic kiss. You might choose the colors of your wedding or colors that are appropriate for the season. We sell a variety of different colored smokes specifically for professional photos because of their “intense look” and duration.
What if you can’t have a set-piece, sparklers, or smoke devices for your wedding?
“You can always incorporate a set piece, sparklers, or smoke devices for any events leading up to your wedding - think proposal, engagement shoot, bridal shower. These eye-catching pictures could be included on save the date cards, invitations, social media posts, or websites that include all of your wedding information for your guests. These unique pictures are sure to get conversations started amongst your guests as to what else you have in store for the big day. You can purchase ground based fountains, sparklers, novelties and more at Backyard Heroes Fireworks!”
What other special events has Advanced Pyrotechnics done?
“Other events we have done include: Propelify in Hoboken, Make-A-Wish gala, Stevens Institute graduation, Greenwood Lake Air Show. We have also done a lot of movie nights, food truck festivals, and even ice sculpture festivals!”
