Tips For Spray Tanning Before Your Wedding Day
If you just can’t picture yourself walking down the aisle without a golden glow, then spray tanning is the way to go! Safer than both a tanning bed and laying out in the sun, spray tanning before your wedding can give you the bronzed look you crave without any risk. To make sure you love your look, it’s best to book a trial appointment before the big day. Lots of brides like to book this to coincide with their bridal shower or bachelorette weekend, so they can enjoy the benefits for photos! Then, be sure to book your pre-wedding appointment so that it falls two days in advance of the main event. The most important thing to remember is to keep your tan looking natural with a shade that is just a bit darker than your skin tone.
While these tips are helpful, they’re just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to getting your ideal spray tan ahead of your wedding day. Read on for more of the must-do’s (and don’ts) for the time leading up to your appointment, during, and afterward!
Before Your Tan
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! This is truly the most important step to take before going for a spray tan to ensure a smooth application. Just make sure that your exfoliator doesn’t have any oils in it, or you could end up with a blotchy tan! We recommend exfoliating with a loofah and your product of choice every day in the week leading up to your appointment.
In addition, any other beauty treatments that you’re receiving prior to your wedding day should be scheduled before your tan. For example, if you’re planning to be waxed, you should book that appointment for two to three days prior to your tanning appointment. The same goes for eyelash extensions. Also, your mani-pedi should be done in advance of your tan. Then, before your tanning appointment, put lotion on your nails to protect their color!
Day of Your Tan
If you’re on the conservative side and would prefer not to go nude in front of your tanning tech, dress mindfully on the day of your appointment. Loose, dark clothing will be your friend both during your appointment and afterward. This means no socks or anything that will put pressure on your skin. Be aware that whatever you’re wearing to be sprayed will create tan lines. So, carefully consider what will and will not be showing when you put on your wedding dress!
Now, we know this goes against everything you’ve ever been told since middle school, but do not wear deodorant to your tanning appointment! The chemicals in deodorant have been known to react with tanning solution and tint armpits green—better to not smell so rosy for a couple of hours than to end up looking like the Grinch. In addition, you shouldn’t arrive at your tanning appointment wearing lotion, oil, or makeup of any kind. Just come bare-skinned and bare-faced, and you’ll be good to go!
After Your Tan
Stay dry! This is a great excuse not to do dishes, the laundry, or any activity where water could possibly splash on you. Before leaving your appointment, it’s best to ask your tanning tech how long you should wait before showering. Depending on the solution used, you’ll most likely have to wait anywhere from eight to 24 hours.
When you do shower, use cold water and a body wash that’s sulfate-free and oil-free. Afterward, moisturize like crazy! Keeping your skin hydrated will prolong your tan and ensure that it looks smooth and even on your wedding day. And, we’re about to give you the best advice you’ve ever received: no working out between your tanning appointment and your wedding. Sweat means a streaky tan. Now’s the time to sit back, relax, and get ready for the best day of your life!
